I feel these sentiments very deeply and can imagine how horrifying it would be to see that contract with a return policy. There is an excellent book on this subject called An American Baby by Gabrielle Glaser if you haven’t read it, that shows a first hand account of the monetization and dehumanization of adoption. I was adopted when I was seven by my stepfather (my birth father died when I was five) and I will never forget the moment as a teenager I saw my birth certificate for the first time and it had my adopted father listed. I felt a crucial part of my identity and history had been erased, and I remain troubled by it decades later.
