I feel this so deeply, especially the guilt about not having the house for your daughter to come home to. I experienced something very similar and have just moved into a considerably smaller apartment post-divorce that only has two bedrooms. When my two kids visit from college, they will either bunk with their little sister or stay in my room or the new pullout sofa. I have worked hard in the past year to create a new home for them, but I know I can't replace the memories of the home they cherished. Still, I know it was time to move forward. It feels very freeing to be in a new apartment that no one but me had a hand in making - a totally fresh start. I hope you enjoy that first cup of coffee in your new place!!!
