I loved the honesty and clarity in this piece, and I agree with all of it. I have been single for the past three years, and before that had been with my husband for 27. I too judged single women: what is their fatal flaw that they can't land the happily ever after they surely must want? Oh boy do I still contend with and try to redeem myself for that flawed, unfair, and righteous way of thinking. I'm disgusted with the self that thought these things and grateful to be myself today, free and single and independent and free of judgment. I am 50 now, and when I tell people I don't want to ever get remarried or live with a man again, they inevitably say "that'll change." I truly hope it doesn't , but if it does, I hope that it'll be its because it's what I want and not because of what society expects of me. Bravo for this thought-provoking piece!
