There are so many things I hate that people have said to me about my divorce - and the one you point out is high up there!!! So is “you’re better off without him” (really, I’m 51 and haven’t worked in 20 years and had to sell my apartment and have to share my kids, but I’m better off?!). I may be better off and I may not be. I may get used to it and I may not. Only time will tell. Platitudes like these don’t help, they just make us feel our pain is unrecognized. That said, after four years, there are parts I’ve gotten used to - doesn’t mean I don’t miss what I’ve lost though. And I’m really not angry anymore because anger is exhausting- but doesn’t mean I often don’t feel sad!
